Canada SCORES Vancouver Highlight

Updated: Jan 30, 2020

Canada SCORES Vancouver provides children living in the Burnaby and Surrey with after-school programs that develop their skills in soccer, poetry, and community service. Douglas College Marketing students, as part of the Envision Financial Community Building Program, are providing marketing support to Canada SCORES Vancouver by creating strategies to promote Canada Scores in the community and attract donors and sponsors. Douglas College students not only gain academic experience but also help an organization that has an impact on the community.

According to the Canada SCORES Vancouver student team, children living in the Lower Mainland face economic and opportunity issues which may limit their growth and development.

Literacy and daily physical activity are also challenging. This is where Canada Scores after school programs come in. Their over-subscribed program provides local children with soccer skills, developing health active lifestyle habits. They build literacy skills by writing and performing their own poetry. And finally, each year the children work on a local community project to improve the world around them.

More children would benefit from the Canada SCORES Vancouver program and so, finding more supporters and sources of funding is necessary for improving the lives of children and youth in the Lower Mainland.

The marketing students who are participating in the Community Building Program, including Envision Financial Douglas College Community Building Program PR Team and the two Canada SCORES Vancouver teams this year, are honoured to work with an organization whose mission is to give our children and youth a place to discover their abilities and achieve their goals.
